Datadog did not build a warehouse data quality product from scratch. It acquired Metaplane in April 2025, and Metaplane is how Datadog delivers data observability, which means the capability you evaluate is Metaplane and the surface you buy it through is Datadog. Metaplane still runs as its own product with its own pricing page, and its connector list is the warehouse set you would expect: Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, Databricks, Clickhouse, Postgres, MySQL, SQL Server, dbt, and the BI layer including Looker, Tableau, Metabase, Mode, Sigma and Power BI. Checked August 2026. The practical question is not whether Datadog can monitor your warehouse. It can. The question is whether you want your data reliability tooling bought, renewed and priced as part of a platform relationship that was originally about hosts and traces.

Infrastructure observability and data observability are not the same problem

This is where most Datadog evaluations go sideways, because the word observability carries two meanings. Infrastructure and application observability answers whether the system is up: is the host responding, is the service returning errors, is latency within budget. Data observability answers whether the numbers are right: did the table load, did the row count collapse, did a column change type, did the distribution shift, and what is downstream of the thing that broke. Pro is usage based and covers 100 monitored tables, and 5 custom SQL monitors. Enterprise is custom priced with unlimited tables and users and 10 custom SQL monitors. The number that surprises people is the custom SQL monitor count, because it stays in single digits at every tier. Automatic metadata driven monitors cover the common failure modes well, but if your reliability strategy depends on a library of bespoke business logic checks, count how many you would need and compare that against 3, 5 and 10 before you commit.

The bundling question, which is really a procurement question

Buying data observability inside Datadog has a genuine upside that is easy to undersell: one vendor, one contract, one security review, one bill, and data alerts sitting next to the service dashboards your on call engineers already watch. If Datadog is already your monitoring home, that consolidation is worth real money in avoided procurement overhead. The downside is the mirror image. Your data tooling now renews on the platform cycle, its cost is entangled with host and event volume you do not control, and switching costs compound across products. Datadog also does not publish a straightforward figure for the combination, so the total lands in a quote. A standalone tool with a published price gives up the single pane of glass and buys back a budget line you can read and a decision you can reverse.
