BUYER GUIDE
Atlan Pricing Model and Atlan Cost for Data Catalog and Data Quality Buyers
Atlan does not publish a price. Its pricing URL opens a sales form, and its AWS Marketplace listing offers only a private quote. The closest thing to a public number is a median of 50,420 dollars a year across 44 purchases reported by the procurement platform Vendr. This page sets out what Atlan actually puts in writing, what the per user tiers quoted on comparison sites are worth, and why Data Quality Studio is a second purchase that also bills your Snowflake, Databricks or BigQuery account. Then it puts a monitoring plan you can buy today, from 59.50 dollars a month, next to it.

What you get
What Atlan charges for, line by line
The pricing page is a sales conversation
Open atlan.com/pricing and you get a page titled Talk To Our Sales Team. It promises an honest conversation about your AI context gap and asks for your name, work email and phone number. There are no tiers on it, no seat prices and no module list. That is a normal way to sell an enterprise platform, and it also means a budget owner cannot put an Atlan line into next year's plan without first booking time with a rep. The AWS Marketplace listing does not help either, because unlike Alation and Collibra, Atlan has not put a public 12 month price on it.
The only public benchmark is a median, not a list price
Vendr, a software procurement platform, reports a median Atlan contract of 50,420 dollars a year based on 44 purchases, with the lowest at 30,078 and the highest at 177,847. That is useful, and it is also secondhand. It describes what other companies negotiated, at their seat counts, with their discounts. Vendr adds that multi year commitments typically come in 15 to 25 percent lower per year. Use the median to sanity check a quote, never as the quote. Your number will land wherever your user count, connectors and modules push it.
The 15 and 30 dollar tiers you keep reading about
Several comparison pages describe Atlan as freemium, with a free single user tier and paid plans at 15 and 30 dollars per user per month. We looked for those plans on atlan.com and on the AWS listing on October 1, 2026, and found neither. Atlan's pricing URL is a sales form and the AWS listing is private offer only. Until Atlan publishes them, treat those per user tiers as unverified. Nobody budgeting a governed rollout should plan on a 30 dollar seat.
Data Quality Studio is a second purchase that bills your warehouse
Atlan's documentation says Data Quality Studio is a paid feature that requires access, and it is switched on through a request in Atlan settings. Checks run inside your warehouse. On Snowflake they run on data metric functions, which Snowflake bills as Data Quality Monitoring serverless compute at a two times multiplier. On Databricks they use serverless compute, and on BigQuery they run as stored procedures. That keeps your data in place, which is good engineering. It also means the true cost of Atlan data quality has three lines: the catalog, the Data Quality Studio feature, and the cloud compute every check consumes.
How it works
From connected to caught
Decide which half of Atlan you are buying
Atlan sells a catalog and governance layer, now pitched as a context layer for AI agents, plus a data quality module. If your problem is that people cannot find or trust the right table, that is the catalog. If tables go stale or break before a report, that is monitoring. Name the one that cost you most last quarter.
Count users and connectors before the first call
Atlan contracts are sized mainly by users and the platforms you connect. Count editors, stewards and readers separately, and list every warehouse, BI tool and orchestrator you want covered. Those two lists drive the quote more than anything said on the call.
Ask for Data Quality Studio as its own line
Request the platform subscription, Data Quality Studio, and any services as separate lines, each with the unit it counts and the renewal terms. Ask which Snowflake edition and which warehouse size the checks need, so you can price the compute side as well.
Run a priced monitor on the same tables for 14 days
Start a DataObservability trial, connect read only to the warehouse Atlan would catalog, and let freshness, volume, schema and distribution monitors generate on every table. You will know what monitoring alone catches, and what it costs, before you sign an annual catalog contract.
What the Atlan AWS Marketplace listing actually says
The listing is titled Atlan, Context Layer for AI, sold by Atlan as software as a service. Where Alation and Collibra show a public price table, Atlan's pricing section reads custom pricing options, request private offer, and says pricing is based on your specific requirements and eligibility. There is no dimension, no unit and no 12 month figure. The overview describes context agents that mine an AWS data estate across S3, Glue, Redshift, Athena and SageMaker, a context engineering studio, and MCP servers that hand certified definitions, lineage, ownership and quality scores to AI agents. The page shows 4.5 stars from 144 reviews. Buying through AWS can still make sense, because the spend may count against an existing AWS commitment, but the price itself comes from a negotiated private offer, exactly like a direct contract.
How Atlan contracts are usually sized
Atlan does not publish its meter, so this section sticks to what buyers report and what the product exposes. Vendr's data set sizes Atlan mainly by users, with reported per user costs falling as teams grow, roughly 1,500 to 2,500 dollars per user a year for teams of 10 to 25 and lower at larger counts. Connectors, modules such as Data Quality Studio, and premium support move the figure from there. In practice the ratio of people who curate to people who read matters more than the total, because a rollout where every analytics engineer edits metadata prices differently from one where a handful of stewards curate and hundreds of people search. Bring both counts to the call and ask for the per user figure in writing.
What Data Quality Studio needs on Snowflake
Atlan's Snowflake setup guide lists the prerequisites plainly. You need Snowflake Enterprise or Business Critical edition, the ACCOUNTADMIN role or equivalent privileges to run the setup, and a dedicated warehouse for data quality queries. Setup creates a database, ATLAN_DQ by default, with SHARED, DMFS, META, STORE and CORE schemas, a stored procedure called MANAGE_DMF that manages data metric functions, two roles named DQ_ADMIN and ATLAN_DQ_SERVICE_ROLE, and a dedicated Snowflake user for Atlan. Atlan also re-attaches rules automatically when a table is recreated. None of that is unusual, but it is a real change request for a platform team, and on a Standard edition account it is a blocker, since data metric functions are an Enterprise feature.
The compute bill behind every Atlan check
Because Data Quality Studio runs on the warehouse's own data quality features, the checks are billed by your cloud vendor, not by Atlan. On Snowflake, data metric functions bill as the Data Quality Monitoring serverless feature, one credit per compute hour multiplied by two, plus cloud services, and the default schedule runs each function once an hour. On Databricks, Atlan uses serverless compute, which bills in DBUs. On BigQuery, rules run as stored procedures, which bill like any other query. For a few dozen critical tables this is small. Spread across hundreds of tables on an hourly cadence, it becomes a line someone in finance will eventually ask about, so price it during the trial, not after.
Which platforms Atlan data quality reaches
Atlan's catalog connects to a long list of sources, including Amazon Redshift, S3, Glue, Athena, Lake Formation, Snowflake, Databricks, dbt, Airflow and the main BI tools. Data Quality Studio is narrower. Its documentation lists three platforms, BigQuery, Databricks and Snowflake. If your warehouse is Redshift, Atlan can catalog it and show its lineage, but its data quality module does not run checks there. DataObservability monitors Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks and Redshift on every plan, so a Redshift team does not need a second product to get freshness and volume alerts.
How the Atlan median compares with a published monitoring price
The gap is structural rather than competitive. Vendr's median Atlan contract of 50,420 dollars a year works out to about 4,200 dollars a month, and the low end of the reported range, 30,078, is still about 2,500 a month, before Data Quality Studio or warehouse compute. DataObservability Scale, with 1,500 monitored tables, column-level lineage, SSO and an audit log, costs 5,754 dollars a year. Team, with 250 tables and ML anomaly detection, costs 2,154 a year. Starter, with 50 tables, costs 714. The comparison is only fair for one job. Atlan buys a catalog, glossary, governance workflows and an AI context layer. We buy one thing, learned freshness, volume, schema and distribution monitoring on four warehouses, with lineage and alert routing. If monitoring is the problem, you do not have to fund a catalog to solve it.
When Atlan is the right purchase, stated plainly
Atlan earns its price when the deliverable is shared understanding of data across a large organization. Its catalog, glossary, ownership and lineage give business users and, now, AI agents a single source of definitions, and its MCP servers push that context into tools such as Claude, Copilot and Cursor. For a company that already runs Atlan as its catalog on Snowflake Enterprise, turning on Data Quality Studio is often simpler than adding a second vendor, because owners, lineage and certified assets already exist and quality scores land where people already look. Where a flat priced monitor wins is a lean data team with a cloud warehouse, a dbt project and a real incident problem this quarter, which needs coverage on every table this week rather than a governance program.
Questions buyers ask
Atlan pricing FAQ
Does Atlan publish pricing?
No. atlan.com/pricing opens a sales form titled Talk To Our Sales Team, and the Atlan AWS Marketplace listing shows custom pricing through a private offer only. There is no public list price, tier table or per seat rate from Atlan itself.
What is the Atlan pricing model?
An annual subscription negotiated per customer and sized mainly by users, connected platforms and modules. Buyer data from Vendr shows per user costs falling as teams grow. Data Quality Studio is a paid feature on top, and its checks bill your warehouse compute.
How much does Atlan cost per user?
Atlan publishes no per user rate. Vendr reports roughly 1,500 to 2,500 dollars per user a year for teams of 10 to 25 users, lower for larger teams. The 15 and 30 dollar monthly tiers on comparison sites do not appear on Atlan pages, so get your rate in writing.
Is Atlan Data Quality Studio included in the platform price?
Not by default. Atlan documents Data Quality Studio as a paid feature that requires access, activated by request. Ask for it as a separate line with its unit, and budget the Snowflake, Databricks or BigQuery compute its checks consume as well.
Does Atlan Data Quality Studio work with Redshift?
No. Data Quality Studio supports BigQuery, Databricks and Snowflake. Atlan can catalog Redshift and show its lineage, but quality checks do not run there. DataObservability monitors Redshift alongside Snowflake, BigQuery and Databricks on every plan.
Is Atlan cheaper than Collibra?
Usually, on the figures available. Collibra lists its platform at 170,000 dollars for 12 months on AWS Marketplace, while Vendr reports a median Atlan contract of 50,420 dollars a year. Atlan has no public list price, so compare written quotes, not medians.
Can I buy Atlan without talking to sales?
No. Both the Atlan website and its AWS listing route you to a quote. DataObservability plans are bought online with a 14 day trial, so you can have monitoring running on your warehouse before an Atlan discovery call is scheduled.
What is a cheaper alternative to Atlan for data quality monitoring?
If you need monitoring rather than a catalog, a dedicated tool with published prices. DataObservability watches freshness, volume, schema and distribution on Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks and Redshift from 59.50 dollars a month billed yearly for 50 tables, or 479.50 for 1,500 tables with column-level lineage.
